After years of postponement, I finally made it to Las Vegas. It was very unreal, and yet it was enjoyable. I would say it is the kind of place that is worth, at least one visit.
I stayed at the Flamingo Hilton at a very reasonable rate. And that confirmed what I had heard, that in order to encourge punters to the gambling table, they usually offer the hotel accomadation at reduced prices.
You had to to be impressed with the presentation of the architectural concepts which went into building the hotels. The themes were sometimes very over the top, but generally amusing. But it is at night that the city comes alive. The hotels compete with every possible variation of neon lighs, with a wide assortment of colours. All this to beckon you inside.
If you are a gambler , you can gamble all day, and all night, surrounded by the food and the drinks, and not to mention the numerous shows of entertainment. For me, the enjoyment was watching everyone else enjoying the scene. My biggest indulgence was playing the slot machines.
Even if you are not a gambler, I would say Las Vegas is still worth a visit. To carve out this kind of city in the middle of a somewhat barren Nevada is something worth seeing, and appreciating.
