Nothing prepares you for the Grand Canyon. I had travelled from Flagstaff that morning expecting something spectacular, and indeed it was spectacular.
It was the middle of November, and yet it was real winter because of the extreme height of the area. I had spent the last few days in Los Angeles, where the weather was quite warm. Taking the Amtrak train overnight, I had arrived in the early morning to a rather snowy Flagstaff.
Yet the day I visited the Canyon was quite sunny. And it was the combination of the the two extremes of weather, which I remember now.
I remember leaving the parked van, and walking up a slight incline thinking, where is it. I headed for the saloon style restaurant. Through the bar, and then out a couple of doors. Then I saw it. I had come, face to face with the largest gorge, ever seen anywhere in the world.
I could could go on and on, but I will allow the photos to speak for me.

We went to the Grand Canyon last year, it sure was fantastic, takes your breath away, pics on my site also.
I lost my hat over the side.
